Putting your ***** in Danger |

Beldurin writes: See what you sick smoking bastards are doing? You're killing cute, helpless pets!
"Pets have ways of telling us what they need and want and they love us no matter what. But they can't tell us "Hey, I can't stand breathing this smoke of yours! Please quit!" Yet, those of us who were smokers didn't realize we might be harming our pets when we smoked. Who thinks of secondhand smoke?"
"A study, originating at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Tufts University in Boston determined that cats living with a smoker had at least double the chance of developing feline lymphoma and four times the risk when living with two people who smoke. "
Ok, this begs the question...why don't we spend the money that went to this study on finding a CURE, not more cases?

Think of it this way: where do the firefighters aim their water, at the top of the flame, at at the base it? Which do you think is more likely to actually put the fire out before it causes more property damage or before it kills someone? |

Hearing that smoking hurts cats isn't going to change too many ppls minds. I personally hate smoking and am borderline allergic to cigarette smoke. What I was getting at was that research money should be spent researching something USEFUL, not how likely cats are to get cancer from smoking. |

There are only X number of people in this world that have the ability to find a cure, and they are already working on it. In most cases, throwing more money at them won't make any difference. It takes time and a little bit of brilliance, which you can't buy. So let these people discover that cats can get cancer from smokers, it isn't going to slow down the research into a cure. Hell, this may even lead to a quicker discovery since they now have some data from a difference species! It might help find the common things between the two and allow us to zero in on exactly what causes it and how to cure it. And this may be a little sad, but it might actually make people stop smoking. Smokers obviously don't have any respect for their bodies, or why would they be smoking. But as soon as they learn that their "precious little kitty" could die from their habit, they may stop. Kind of fucked up priorities if you ask me, but I bet it's already happened a few times. |

I'm guessing you don't drink, smoke, drink caffine, eat at fast food resturaunts, etc. etc... Hell I've seen your picture, you certainly don't strike me as someone with "respect for your body". |

I have a lot of respect for my body, but I didn't always. That picture you've seen of me is 3 months old. I look different now, I've been working out, eating better, drinking water, losing weight, and putting muscle on. I dyed my hair because I felt like doing something different. But in the end, my dying my hair won't kill me, won't take off a few years from people around me, and won't cause other's to have to pay high medical bills. So yes, I do have respect for my body, obviously more than you do if you smoke. |
