your own numbers show that there *is* a definite increase in transfer rate. You said there is none.

My experience with hundreds of PCs tells me that systems with 7200rpm drives are noticably faster than otherwise equivalent systems with 5400rpm drives... and 5400rpm drives are being phased out, so the point is rather moot.

One upside to 5400rpm drives is they produce less heat and seem to be more robust than their 7200rpm counterparts. I use them for backup all the time :)
